DDD by Sector

Through DDD, Canadians share their experience and expertise with local partners in developing countries to help them meet specific democratic governance objectives in the following areas:

  • Human Rights: Strengthening human rights institutions and mechanisms, civil society, education, the rights of the marginalized, including women, children, and indigenous peoples
  • Freedom and Democracy: Building open and accountable political systems and creating a democratic environment with an independent media, strong civil society, and free and fair elections
  • Accountable Public Institutions: Promoting responsible and transparent public institutions, including strong audit and statistical capacity, human resource management, and service delivery
  • Rule of Law: Promoting non-discriminatory, credible, effective, and independent judicial and legal systems
